The sludge is exposed to > 55°C for a certain time.

Heating the sludge to 65-100°C for at least 30 minutes. It should only be used before digestion as otherwise the risk of microbial regrowth is too great.
In order to be able to compost sedimentation sludge, it is mixed with structuring material (urban waste, straw, sawdust, ...). The desired decontamination is however often not achieved.
